Meghalaya tour packages from Guwahati: what to actually book

Most people arrive at Guwahati airport with a rough plan and no idea what a Meghalaya tour should cost. Here is the honest version.

How many days you need

• 2 days — Shillong and a Cherrapunji day. Rushed but workable.
• 3 days — add Dawki and Mawlynnong. This is the common first visit.
• 5 days — add Krang Suri and either the Nongriat trek or a slow day in Shillong.
• 7+ days — worth adding Kaziranga in Assam on the way back.

Anything under two days is a transfer, not a tour. Guwahati to Shillong alone is 100 km and about three hours.

Shared versus private

A private cab for a Meghalaya circuit is quoted per vehicle per day — typically ₹4,000–₹6,000 depending on the car. If there are four of you, that is reasonable. If there are two, you are paying for empty seats.

Shared day trips are priced per person: ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 depending on the route. Two people doing three shared day trips will pay far less than chartering, and the itinerary is fixed so nothing is negotiated at the roadside.

Base yourself in Shillong rather than moving hotels every night. From there, Cherrapunji, Dawki, Krang Suri and the Nongriat trek are all single days out and back. It saves packing, it saves hotel changes, and it means a bad-weather day can be swapped without unpicking a booking chain.
